Y Street is Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth's statewide youth engagement program. Y Street members are high school students who advocate for tobacco-free and active lifestyles. In 2011, the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids named Y Street the Group Youth Advocate of the Year Award. Currently, there are over 1,100 active Y Street members across Virginia. Y Street members are involved in campaigns with specific objectives in their communities. For example, the Meltdown Campaign was focused on increasing public awareness regarding the dangers of tobacco products while the CounterBalance Campaign is about assessing the impact of point-of-sale advertising amongst youth. Y Street members frequently educate decision-makers, including the FDA, on specific issues to support policy change efforts.
