One word I would use to describe this camp:
Life - changing
Hi, I'm Nora Kramer and I'm the executive director of Youth Empowered Action Camp.
YEA camp is a week-long overnight sleepaway camp. We have camps all over the country for teenagers who know they want to make a difference in the world.
"Well I've been to many camps, but none of them are like YEA Camp."
"First of all, YEA is an activist camp and you can't just find that."
"I think everyone should be able to have the YEA experience"
Our staff are not your typical camp staff. They have their teaching credentials, they've worked for nonprofits, or they've been community organizers or worked on political campaigns. They have an enormous amount of experience and dedication to make a huge difference in the world and they are there because they are committed to helping other young people make a difference, too.
"I feel totally accepted here, and we feel closer to each other than Ive been to anyone in a long time."
"It's only been a week and I feel like everyone here is already my family."
"Community is the basis for people's activism and having that cultivated here away from your community is extremely important and provides that basis for your activism for the rest of your life"
"To hear everybody have that much passion in their voice and to like feel how everyone is connected to wanting to make that difference, that's really empowering.
If you're a teenager who wants to make a difference in the world, YEA Camp is the place for you. To find out what YEA Camp is up to this summer, check out www.yeacamp.org
