A new year and a new decade for water.
For more than three decades, the Wyland Foundation has taken an active role in raising awareness about the effort to protect our ocean, lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands, with numerous programs and initiatives. In the next ten years, 2015-2025, the foundation will introduce a new initiative, the Wyland World Water Pledge, that will focus on the many ways people can act locally to support the health of marine based eco-systems around the world.
We believe sustainability starts right here, right now. In the years to come, the Wyland World Water Pledge will evolve with the changing issues that affect the world’s water supply and the health of water systems. The program will welcome new partners, from the smallest grassroots organizations to strategic alliances with organizations such as the United Nations Environmental Program, and people of every race and creed to promote the protection and restoration of global watersheds, improve water quality, and work toward the efficient and innovative use of water.
Ongoing efforts will include educational activities and lessons in multiple languages for young people around the world to learn more about marine debris, pollution runoff, and the way people use water – from the food we grow to the things we buy. We’ll be taking part in international events, such as World Environment Day, and sharing the latest information from experts around the world about the water issues and ways we can all work together for the big picture.
