Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, talks with Julie Friedman Steele, Chair of the World Future Society, at WorldFuture 2016 about how to be powerful advocates for global causes.
What can our fellow citizens learn from the animal welfare community about how to be effective advocates for the future?
Wayne Pacelle's keynote address reminded us of the close link between how we treat our animals and how we safeguard our own health and wellbeing.
1) Ethical treatment of animals is not just an isolated issue: it reflects who we are as a society, and the kind of world that we want to live in.
2) As we envision the economy of tomorrow, it's time for us to end the myopic pursuit of growth at the expense of the most vulnerable beings on the planet.
3) We want to build a society that reflects our highest principles: a Humane Economy.
The Humane Society of the U.S. has had tremendous success winning allies across society, industry and government to end animal cruelty. In this video above, we gain a glimpse into how a movement is built: through shared vision and communal action.
That's the kind of approach that we are called to as futurists in this new era!
