This is a video preview of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra's upcoming concert on April 29, 2017. This concert features the 2nd installment of our five-year presentation of Van Cliburn competition winners called The Cliburn Project. The current reigning gold medalist Vadym Kholodenko will be performing Brahms Second Piano Concerto on the first half. The second half will open with a piece written in 2013 by composer Mason Bates entitled "Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release". Bates is the current composer-in-residence at the Kennedy Center and recently finished a three-year residency with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Following the Bates piece will be the familiar Ravel orchestration of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition featuring art created by local artists ranging from elementary to collegiate students.
