    György Pauk is widely regarded as one of the leading violinists of his generation, with an illustrious career spanning over fifty years. A professor of at the Royal Academy of Music in London, the artist was invited to present at USC Thornton as part of the Los Angeles Philanthropic Committee for the Arts’ (LAPCA) masterclass series on April 14, 2014.

    The Pauk masterclass program featured performances by several USC Thornton violin students. From the studio of Margaret Batjer, doctoral candidate Joanna Lee performed Brahms’ Sonata in D minor, accompanied by Esther Lee on the piano. Francisco Garcia Fullana, a graduate certificate student of Midori Goto, performed Janacek’s Violin Sonata, accompanied by Jiayi Shi. From the studio of Glenn Dicterow, masters candidate Hwi-Eun Kim performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Op. 35, with accompaniment by Alexander Sinchuk.

    The masterclass was filmed in conjunction with the New World Symphony’s latest initiative, MUSAIC, which aims to make world-class classical music instruction widely accessible to digital audiences.
