At 14 months old, Cooper began experiencing breathing difficulties and vomiting frequently. When his condition worsened, his local hospital diagnosed him with dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease in which the heart doesn’t pump blood adequately. When his heart function continued to decline, Cooper was transferred to our hospital.
After surviving multiple procedures, a stroke, a collapsed lung, and 30 days on ECMO, Cooper’s health is improving, he enjoys school, and he loves to laugh. Meet Cooper Leeman from Radcliffe, Iowa: uichildrens.org/2019-cooper.
