The University of Houston has released its 2016-17 national commercial, “This Is Innovation,” prominently featuring members of The Spirit of Houston marching band drumline and UH students in action. The commercial was produced in-house by the Division of Marketing, Communciation and Media Relations and builds on the University’s “Powerhouse” marketing campaign, which launched in 2014. The spot was created around a music track written specifically for the project by UH alum and Spirit of Houston Band assistant director Jamey Kollar. The beat of the percussionists drives the visuals, which features student-athletes in competition, nursing students in a clinical lab, architecture students welding a project in the Keeland Design Center and others getting hands-on training in labs in the Texas Center for Superconductivity, the College of Pharmacy and the Virtual Reality Clinical Research Lab.
UH Moment is a weekly feature heard Wednesdays at 7:49 a.m. and 6:30 p.m on KUHF and seen daily on KUHT HoustonPBS. Each week, you'll hear students, faculty and administrators telling stories of the innovative research, programs and successes that make up the story of the University of Houston.
UH Moment on KUHF is written by the staff of University Communication and voiced by Marisa Ramirez, a UH alum. The program is produced by Paul Franklin, audio specialist for KUHF. UH Moment on KUHT is also written by staff of University Communication and edited and produced in conjunction with staff of Houston Public Media.
The music that introduces the segment is the original work of Brad Sayles, composer and KUHF Senior Recording Engineer. Brad is the 2003 and 2007 first laureate of the Louisa Stude Sarofim Composition Competition for his chamber suite New England Journey and his dramatic voice and chamber ensemble piece The Lily. He's also a UH alum.
