The University Ceremony of the 523rd Convocation of the University of Chicago was held on June 13, 2015, on the Main Quadrangle. The University of Chicago Pipe Band led distinguished faculty and degree candidates in a procession, followed by opening remarks from President Robert J. Zimmer. Provost Eric D. Isaacs introduced Professor Shulamit Ran, who delivered the Convocation Address, "Why We Make Art."
The new, nonpartisan Institute of Politics encourages and assists University of Chicago students to explore careers in public and social service and provides extracurricular opportunities in politics and policymaking.
Led by political strategist and UChicago alumnus David Axelrod, AB'76, the Institute offers programs including: the hosting of political and policy practitioners as visiting fellows; the securing and funding of exciting and rewarding political, policy and public interest internships; and offering a continuous series of public speakers discussing current events and political life.
From the first campus plan to the most recent contemporary tower, the architecture at the University of Chicago has been conceived by some of the most forward-thinking and well-respected designers in the world. Campus features the work of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Henry Ives Cobb, Eero Saarinen, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Walter Netsch, Ricardo Legorreta, Rafael Viñoly, César Pelli, Helmut Jahn, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien Architects, and Holabird, Root and Burgee.
