“When I was elected to be school captain…it was the best day of my life. Just seeing that the majority of this school are Aboriginal and having an Aboriginal leader, I feel like that is a big thing for the young ones,” says Layhnee, one of our Girls at the Centre program participants. Layhnee tells us how the program helped her go from “naughty kid” to school captain.
Girls at the Centre aims to improve the educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls, by helping them build constructive relationships with each other, their schools, families and community members.
The Girls at the Centre program runs in Wagga Wagga, NSW in partnership with Mount Austin High School.
