Welcome to our 161st season. Our musical year is rich in landmark pieces, not least Janácek’s Glagolitic Mass, which is performed alongside Strauss’s wonderfully radiant tone-poem Also Sprach Zarathustra. Berlioz celebrations include his colossal tour-de-force for orchestra and choir, The Damnation of Faust, and Symphonie fantastique as well as two of his colourful and original overtures. Stravinsky’s shocking ballet The Rite of Spring is paired with another Romantic masterpiece, Verklärte Nacht, by Schoenberg. There is also the latest of our commissions for Hallé soloists – a trombone concerto by John Casken, and many great symphonic works.
Our 2018-19 season of concerts will go on sale from 8 May 2018.
