A 285-pound linebacker running triathlons would be called a fish out of water. A 285-pound linebacker competing in an IRONMAN would be called flat out crazy. But that didn't stop former NFL player and current Firehouse Subs franchisee Don Davey.
For athletes who seek the ultimate challenge – the IRONMAN Triathlon is a series of long-distance races. Participants are tested in the water and on land with a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run, with not even a break.
After his NFL playing days were over, Don Davey managed to tackle six IRONMAN races. His dream was to reach the pinnacle event for this sport, the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, HI, which also boasts the toughest race conditions and the world's best competitors.
