We are Canada's largest, hospital-based child health research institute. Our commitment is to improve the health of children, here in Canada and in the global community.
Our history is one of research innovation. The Research Institute was founded in 1954 with the belief that innovation was critical to the hospital's mission to improve child health. We share the SickKids vision of Healthier Children. A Better World.
Our values are research excellence and integrity and our strength is collaboration. We have created an environment where top researchers and health care experts work closely together as a team to improve children's health.
The Child Life team at SickKids strives to promote a positive hospital experience for children. Child Life Programs focus on the social and emotional impact of illness and hospitalization. Our Child Life Specialists use play as a tool for socialization, preparation, expression of feelings, normalization and learning. #SKChildLife
As Canada's leading paediatric health sciences centre, SickKids has expertise in many domains that are well matched to the needs of children globally. Building and expanding on our strong foundation in paediatric health, Global Child Health is based on four integrated components: research; education and capacity building; advocacy and knowledge translation; and a national-global health policy initiative.
