I’d been listening to a lot of Paul Weller whilst on honeymoon. Mainly ‘A Kind Revolution’, which I think is a fabulous record. Sometimes, when I’m really digging an artist, I go to my guitar and a song just pours out of me. Upon further assessment, I realise it’s my version of what that artist sounds like. This song follows that pattern.
There’s some really jazzy chords in this one. In my mind, that always helps a song stand out, as so many artists play the same chord sequences. I see little point in that, as someone has probably used those chords in a much better way!
The song is a reflection of the crazy times which we’re living in. I feel like the current climate is something the next generation will be studying in history. If you look back, a lot of great music has been written in difficult times. I like to think of myself as someone who sees the bigger picture. This song is a conversation between myself and the other people that got unplugged from ‘The Matrix’.
