SEKAB is a Swedish chemical and environmental technology companies. We refine ethanol kemikalieroch biofuels. We develop new biorefinery techniques that enables the production of green chemistry products.
WELCOME TO SEKAB A SUCCESSFUL SWEDISH CHEMICAL AND CLEANTECH COMPANY. It is in the northern forests you will find the cradle of the Swedish chemical industry. It was here, way back in 1909, that the first drops of industrial forestry ethanol were produced in the region. It is here that SEKAB has its roots.
SEKAB is a successful Swedish chemical and cleantech company and it is one of Europe’s leading players in the field of ethanol.
Our society faces a huge challenge when old sources of energy must be replaced by renewable ones. We want to make a future in which we no longer depend on fossil fuels and other raw materials. Today, SEKAB is doing that by producing in accordance with the circular flow principle, which uses one portion of residual streams from renewable energy as input into the production process, while converting another portion into biogas. We accomplish this by refining bioethanol into biofuels and green chemical products.
With over one hundred years of combined experience, we continue to develop new sustainable products and innovative solutions within the fields of chemistry and biotechnology — using biomass as the raw material.
IN OUR CHEMICAL PLANT WE CONVERT AND REFINE ETHANOL INTO BIOFUELS AND VARIOUS CHEMICAL PRODUCT
Chemicals, which ultimately can be found in much of what we use in our everyday lives – washer fluid, vinegar, paint, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, cleaning products, plastics and building materials are some examples of the end results of our chemical production.
Much of what is currently being produced from fossil oil and coal can — with significant benefits for the climate — be replaced by renewable bioethanol. This is what we call green chemistry. Exactly how green these chemical products are, is controlled by the choice of raw materials and by the free market. That’s to say – by you and me.
SEKAB IS A TRUE PIONEER IN BIOFUELS
We developed and pioneered the E85 market in Sweden. No other country in Europe has made such large and consistent investments to make biofuels accessible to all. Today, fuel manufacturers themselves supply E85 to the market.
Our quest does not stop there. In cooperation with Scania, we have developed Biofuel ED95 for modified diesel engines, where 95 per cent of the fuel is renewable bioethanol. ED95 provides both good energy, efficiency and reduces the environmental impact. We are continuing to develop the market for ED95 for heavy traffic.
UNIQUE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
The forestry industry, the timber industry, agriculture, the food industry, the manufacturing industry — many companies have one thing in common - cellulose-based by-products. Many businesses today want to know more about how cellulose biomass can be used to reduce our dependency on fossil oil and coal.
In the Biorefinery Demo Plant, next door to our chemical plant, SEKAB - along with universities, research institutes and public sector functions – carries out unique research and development of new technologies that utilize the value of these residual products.
This enables the conversion and processing of biomass into attractive, eco-friendly, chemical products — including not only fuel, but also plastic bags, nappies, concrete and more — that do not require fossil resources and that live up to future demands for environmental benefit and sustainability.
SEKAB’s technology platform CelluAPP® is one of the absolute best in the world. We are involved in a number of pilot studies where we together with companies from around the world are investigating the potential of different types of residual products.
Our strength lies here, at home — in one of Europe’s premier bio-refineries, also known as the Bio-refinery of the Future. Here, SEKAB and other companies interact within the process industry for bioenergy, bio-cleaning, water, and product streams in a unique circular flow that focuses on sustainability and our vision of a greener society. Welcome to a more sustainable future. Welcome to SEKAB.
