Giyani - land of blood - is South Africa's first ever Xitsonga drama and is set in a fictional village called Risinga Village, just on the outskirts of Giyani. The residences of this world refer to this village as Ka Risinga.
Even though the land around Giyani is not fertile enough to have a thriving banana plantation, the gods have been kind to the village of Risinga by giving it fertile land.
It is on this fertile land that during the native land act, a huge section of the fertile land was grabbed by the regime government and sold to the Van Reenen Family – who for generations have cultivated the most scrumptious bananas in the North. Those bananas have found their way into all major supermarkets in South Africa and some parts of Southern Africa.
