Q What is Drape and Drag?
A Drape and Drag flows, drives, pivots, and shapes around a dance floor. Danced to slow jazz and jazz-blues music, it leaves your dance partners smiling and viewers applauding. After lots of research into dances to this style of music in the early 20th century, Ruth and Mike offer their version. (Resources include videos from old ballrooms such as the Savoy, documentaries such as “The Spirit Moves” and early blues and jazz dances such as Two Step, Strut, Stride, The Ballroom, and Savoy Walk). Lindy hoppers, Balboa dancers, and Blues dancers have all raved about how much they enjoy dancing with these techniques.

Q Who are Ruth and Mike?
A Ruth and Mike are dedicated dancers and technicians. Their mastery of the style shows in their artistry and precision. People around the world know them for their connection to partner and music. Between them, they have over 30 years of experience teaching partnered dances. They are known to students around the globe (16 countries and counting) for their ability to break down technique with precision while keeping it fun and accessible. They bring their own brand of weird to all of their teaching, and invite you to join them for a mix of hard work and silliness.

Q What comes with each course?
A Each course comes with lessons broken down into accessible lengths so that you can fit them into your schedule at leisure. Many people complain that they don’t have practice partners, so concepts come with two practice videos- one for dancers alone, and one for dancers with a partner. These three courses all feature the music of The Fried Bananas.

Q Who are these courses for?
A You, your friends, your neighbors, the nice bartender (not the one who gives you nasty looks). Course one sets you up with great technique for close embrace connection, walking, and other fundamentals. This one is great for beginners starting out or for advanced students deepening their technique. The rest of the courses take you into specifics for the style. If you are more experienced you will go more quickly, and if you have less time as a partner dancer you will be able to go at your own pace with lots of practice time Show less
