I grew up body surfing in Southern California -- and I loved it. Some of my earliest memories are of my father teaching me how to body surf....and then later that day a lifeguard hauling me out of the water not because I was in trouble but because he thought I was too small/young to be taking the "big" waves in. Of course, I snuck back out to take the waves in...and was caught by the same lifeguard!
If you have ever been out in the ocean you know that there is nothing you can do to manufacture a wave. You can't just make it happen. I cannot tell you how much time we spent waiting for a wave to come. At times we even tried to "bounce water off of Catalina Island" to create a wave, but to no avail. Waves -and when they come- are a gift of God. They are part of His wonderful creation.
But when a wave comes, you have a couple of decisions to make. You can, with some effort (sometimes considerable effort), duck under it and let it go by you. Or you can roll out of it-again with some effort. Or, you can swallow your fear and your need to be in control, and you can let it take you where it is going, relaxed in its tremendous power, as it engulfs everything in its path, carrying you along with it. The amazing thing is that when you are in the wave, it is effortless for you to be carried along. It's all about the waves' power and the waves' direction-not yours.
Wouldn't it be neat to have a wave to ride in our everyday lives?...something that would carry us along on a path that was good and right with a power greater than ourselves?...something we could relax in and just enjoy the ride?....something where we wouldn't have to be in control because, after all, we foul things up so often?... something that engulfed every part of our life and world in what was good and right?....something that drove us along with its power as we too were part of that which engulfed the world in what was good and right?
We do. It's the Resurrection Wave. In the next few weeks this is going to be our focus.....Riding the Resurrection Wave. It is a gift from God to each of us. Interested?
