Micro-First is a new way to design Sales and Leadership training initiatives that turns legacy approaches on their heads.
Legacy ILT teaches multiple concepts in a single learning event. The core activity is the event itself, and although follow up is usually baked in to the plan, too often it’s treated as an after-thought. The result: Little follow-up, little sustained learning.
Micro-first flips this model. You kick off a training process with a 5- to 7-minute video, but the core of the initiative is a series of follow-up activities that revisit the learning at spaced intervals. Results: People retain what they learn.
More than a century of research proves that knowledge retention with ILT-First training is low because our brains can’t assimilate multiple concepts in a single event. The research also explains why Micro-First does work – because the brain can easily assimilate a single learning concept, and individual learners and teams can easily revisit one concept and make it stick.
