Laryngeal Cancer is a malignant disease within the throat that invades the vocal cords and/or surrounding structures. Typical symptoms include gradually worsening hoarse voice, pain when speaking or swallowing, and advanced cases can result in breathing difficulties. Risk factors include a history of heavy tobacco and/or alcohol use. Other independent risk factors include professions like painters, metal-workers, persons exposed to diesel and gasoline fumes, and patients exposed to therapeutic doses of radiation. Early diagnosis of laryngeal cancers is critical. Our modern endoscopy equipment enables us to biopsy lesions in the office to make the diagnosis quickly.
