On any given day in the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, students are letting their imaginations soar — and getting their hands dirty — on some intriguing engineering challenges. In just a few years, the OEDK has revolutionized engineering education at Rice by providing a collaborative innovation hub, where engineering students at all levels can tackle authentic, “real-world” design challenges.
There are no barriers to collaboration between engineering disciplines, and what’s more, engineers work with students from across campus, and with local and national industry partners, start-ups and institutions in the Texas Medical Center.
Using the OEDK’s resources, our students work on interdisciplinary teams to tackle engineering design challenges on campus, in our community, and beyond. With rapid prototyping equipment, a wood shop, wet lab, machine shop, electronics lab, hand tools, and meeting rooms and dedicated work stations at their disposal, our students are taking on ever-more complex engineering design problems. And they are excelling at solving them.
In the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, our students have a space to immerse themselves and innovate, invent and create.
