Taken from the full concerts that were edited into the half hour TV show, these DVDs contain previously unreleased performances. The re-edited performances include all of the songs that aired on the Austin City Limits broadcast as well as never before heard or seen songs from the tapings. The DVDs have been re-mixed and re-mastered in 5.1 surround sound to provide the highest quality concert DVDs. With more than 400 shows in the Austin City Limits archives, many of the artist performances are one-of-a kind, featuring rare television appearances from some of the countrys best musicians. In addition to the release of DVDs, separate live, audio-only CDs of the artists performances will also be available. In 2003, the shows quality was recognized with the nations highest honor for artistic excellence the National Medal of Arts. Each year, the President of the United States gives these awards to individuals and organizations for their extraordinary contribution to the arts in America. No other television program has ever received this honor. Additional CDs and DVDs will be released early next year with more coming in the summer and fall of 2006 and beyond.
