Welcome to the YOU Can Beatbox, the series where you learn how to beatbox. Today, we'll learn the 3 basic sounds of beatbox and a few beats as well. So lets jump into it.
The bass drum is the big round one on the bottom. Its basically the heartbeat of the drumset. In beatboxing the story is the same. The sound is made by building up pressure behind your lips and then releasing it in a punchy, low sound. Its like the letter B, except you take out using your vocal cords, so its just pushing the air from your lungs. The most important thing is to make sure you get some lung power into this sound and all of your sounds as this will build up lung strength and breath control. So once you've practiced and gotten this sound down, a good way to practice is just doing a heartbeat. [Demo]
Alright time for the second sound: the snare drum. This is the punchy drum that sits right in the drummers lap that sounds like this. The snare drum is also an integral part of beatboxing. There are a couple of different snares to work with but today we're going to learn the outward K snare. And its really just that simple. You say the letter K and try and get some air into it. Just starting to beatbox, this is a perfect snare to learn because its simple, loud and effective.
So now using the two sounds we've learned so far, we'll go ahead and learn a few simple beats.
1) B K B K B K B K etc.
2) B B K B B K (House beat)
And the last sound for the day is the hi-hat. This is the two little cymbals just to the left of the drummer [sample from garageband]. The basis of this sound is the letter T. I've found that this sounds best when i have my teeth together but whatever works is great. To make this sound you just want to make the letter T. And once again its that simple. As with actual hi hats, there's the closed hi hat and the open hi hat [GB sample]. The open hi hat is just adding on an S sound to the end of your T. So now, one great beat with the hi hat is the classic jazz intro
1) Jazz beat
And now we'll throw all three sounds together.
1) Bt K t B t K Ts
2) B t t B t t K
So thats all for this week's episode but i hope you guys enjoyed learning the basic sounds of beatbox. Subscribe and Like for more videos in this series and share the videos to teach your friends how to beatbox too.
