This is a parody of the Warren / Van Heusen classic, "Swing On A Star" written by Pat Donohue. It comes complete with the imbedded story of why this title song to Mike's 2nd CD, "...Or Would You Rather Get a Job" actually does not appear on the CD.
Mike Agranoff and the harmony Trio Gathering Time (http://www.gathering-time.com/) have done numerous joint appearances, where each will sit in on the other's set for part of the show. Here are some examples.
"Coffeehouse of the Absurd" is the duo of Mike Agranoff and John Forster, two very funny men. Mike is known for his parodies, his clever wordplay, and sparkling guitar work. John obviously fell asleep as a child once too often to the sound of his Tom Lehrer albums. This is evidenced by his twisted sense of humor, his delightfully skewed view of the human condition, and his prodigious skills as a pianist. His songs have a knack for taking the plausible but improbable, and leading that to its implausible but inevitable conclusion by way of unlikely rhymes, horrible puns, and ironic satire.Together they provide an evening of wit and bellylaughs.
Mike Agranoff is a superb storyteller in many styles. He's best known for is recitations: stories in verse in the style of Robert Service. It's a lost art, but in the right hands it is powerful and exciting storytelling. He also tells personal tales, true fantasies, ballads (in the original sense of the word: stories in song), and stories interspersed within songs.
