James Phillip Bond is a Senior Attorney at Georgia Legal Services Program in Macon. He has worked at Georgia Legal Services since the summer of 1982 when he began as an intern. Phil has dedicated his entire career to the representation of low-income people in cases where they are unable to obtain assistance from private attorneys.
Phil is a worthy recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus Award, which is presented to a Mercer Law graduate for service to humanity and dedication to the legal profession, which have fostered the ideals of Mercer Law School. Phil has influenced hundreds of Mercer Law students by giving generously of his time to speak in law school classes and by regularly supervising student externs in the Macon office of GLSP. He is a role model and mentor for those law students and also for members of the middle Georgia bench and bar, demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and an ethic of care for his clients. Phil gives voice to those who might otherwise be voiceless and is a powerful advocate for increasing access to justice for all Georgians.
Mercer Law is hosting a One Day Legal Writing Institute Workshop on December 5, 2014. The Workshop theme is Preparing Practice-Ready Students. In keeping with that theme, the program offers time for judges, lawyers, and law professors to collaborate and learn strategies to make our law students ready for the practice of law.
