ADVENA AVIS, is the latin name of the musical project founded by Fabio Armani and Marco Carpiceci in Italy. It means "migratory bird", a bird that comes from afar and goes far.
The name relation to the project goals is more than accidental, the group in fact, born in 1990, follows a course which, inspired from the ancient, that is from the vast repertoire of medieval melodies, and from the study of instruments and performing techniques of the ethnic and popular music world, developed and enriched itself in different phases.
Such a base structured as a series of melodic and instrumental "sound cells", is transformed by the contribution of the performing and composing skills of the two authors, skills acquired during two entirely different musical career. The outcome of all this cultural and creative process is an original product obtained mainly by samplers and synthesisers and enriched by voice, soprano sax, guitars, drums and ethnic instruments such as "saz, riqq and darbukka".
At present the ADVENA AVIS group is made up by, besides the two authors, by Anna De Martini (voice), Walter Brunetto (guitars), Alessandro D'Aloia (drums) e Marco Tocili (sax and flutes), whose considerable experience acquired in classical (ancient), jazz and ethnic music, allowed the in-depth development of music exploration and mixing of different cultures already undertaken since 1990.
This group took part in the programme "M COME MUSICA" (M as in Music) of the Vatican radio "Studio A" broadcast of Dec. 2nd 1992. Moderator was the musical critic Giorgio Boari Ortolani and the show title was: " Marco Carpiceci, Fabio Armani, composers". Recently, they were also guests at the "Appunti di volo" show broadcast by RAI, Radio 3 station (June 1998).
n July 1997 the group's first CD titled "Medioevo Futuro" (Future Middle-Ages) appeared with the "Avvenimenti" magazine.
Produced by Filippo Bussi's Tweedle Music label, under the artistic direction of Fabio Armani in the Echosound studios of Rome, this CD is the result of a survey on Italian Fourteenth century music, where music and lirics taken from an ancient codex stored in Rome (Apostolic Vatican Library, Ms Rossi 215), are revised with new electronic sounds and interpreted making use of knowledge of instruments and performing techniques of cultural areas where lingering and strong attachment to tradition has brought us ancient musicality.
he ADVENA AVIS musical evolution has brought to the accomplishment of new compositions which, although still inspired to ancient music, get farther away from it, to the point of not showing anymore ties with it. The result of such work has reached its own maturity and originality where in its modern musical aspect still lets perceive the ancient roots from whence it evolved.
