This Children’s Day let’s not just celebrate childhood, let’s fight to preserve it for those who never get a chance!
Tabbu is your average adolescent girl, with an extraordinary story. In a social setting that rewards helpless conformity, she took a stand. In a culture that rewards obedience, she spoke up. When her sister who was then a tenth grader was deemed of marriageable age, she decided that it was worth moving heaven and Earth to stand in the way. She ended up saving not just her sister, but herself. Her sister wants to do her PhD and she is on the way to completing her graduation.
Not everyone is that lucky.
Today, a vast number of women in India will never go to high school. Every 7th woman who is married in India is a teenager. Lakhs of women will never get to experience a womanhood of freedom. Today we have a chance to change that. And we should.
It is November, a time when we prepare for Children's Day; to celebrate that most special period in a person's life - childhood.
What we’re going to be aiming for -
We’re going to be aiming to reach out to 200,000 girls and help them stay in school. Period.
Stories like Tabbu’s inspire us. But let’s not forget that when she fought her family to insist that her sister stay in school, she was standing alone, on the platform of only some iron clad principles. Imagine if we could work with every layer of a woman’s life: her family, the anganwadis, the school authorities, the village local authorities. Imagine if we could provide girls like Tabbu, the support they need to assert themselves.
But we need your help!
Why we need your help -
These campaigns involve a large number of people. It is a large and arduous engagement. Never before have we tried to track and map 200k+ girls. It requires manpower, commitment and will. But, to be able make an impact at such a large scale, we will need your help!
- Just Rs. 1800/- helps us ensure that one girl stays in school and has access to healthcare and community support.
- Just Rs. 5400/- helps us keep 3 girls in school
- Just Rs. 9000/- helps us ensure 5 girls stay in school
