At LeTourneau University, "hands-on" is in our DNA.
Every day, in every lab, airplane and classroom, we continue to build upon the legacy of our founder, the industrious inventor R.G. LeTourneau — by preparing students not only for rewarding careers, but also for a lifetime spent fusing their faith with their work to make an impact in every workplace and every nation. Many of our students are 18-year-old undergraduate students who choose to live on our main campus for their four years. Our student athletes compete in national championships while scoring all-academic accolades. But the LETU student body extends beyond just the residential campus. Our students are online, working fulltime jobs while going to school, putting their faith to work from East Texas to East Africa. And they are graduate students pursuing the prestige of a LeTourneau advanced degree.
Our academic programs are unparalleled: Our engineering program was the first ABET-accredited program in Christian higher education. Our aviation program, recognized as the most outstanding all-around college aviation program in the nation, was the first in Texas to be approved by the FAA to train air traffic controllers. But you'll find our students beyond blueprints and cockpits. They are chemistry students conducting groundbreaking biodiesel research, English students performing visual literacy research, and biology students enabling disabled children in low-income countries to have more functional wheelchairs.
At LeTourneau University, "hands-on" is also the way that we show our faith. It is shown through more than 35,000 hours a year spent in community service. Our faith is shown in amazing projects where we apply our vocational skills to ministry. Our students design foot-powered water pumps for use in poverty-stricken areas of the world. They designed affordable and durable vehicles for missionaries to use. Our MBA students helped the City of Dallas develop a strategic business plan to revitalize a low-income neighborhood. LETU students are finding ways of building affordable and efficient wind turbines to bring power to missionaries serving in areas without it.
Our graduates are leading world-class organizations. LeTourneau University alumni are in the boardrooms, classrooms, and cockpits of some of the biggest companies in the world. Our teacher education alumni have been honored as the very best teachers in the state of Texas numerous times. Our pilots have flown everything from small Cessnas filled with bibles and food on the mission fields of Indonesia to the official 757 of the Vice President of the United States. LeTourneau graduates are literally building and rebuilding the infrastructure of our world, its bridges, its machines, its technology. Even broken bodies and broken marriages.
LeTourneau University is not just any college. We're different in really awesome ways. We're radical in the way we fuse faith and work. We're innovative in the ways we solve problems. We value personal relationships as the heart of what we do. We believe that a hands-on approach to learning is the best approach. We engage with the world. And change it in the process.
