We are delighted to welcome Douglas A. Girod as the next chancellor of the University of Kansas. Girod will become our 18th chancellor, taking over for Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, who announced last fall she would step down this summer.
Girod has served as executive vice chancellor of the KU Medical Center since 2013, where he oversees the schools of Medicine, Nursing and Health Professions, which together comprise 3,300 students, 2,100 faculty and 4,000 staff and conduct nearly $100 million in research each year. In addition to serving as executive vice chancellor, Girod served as interim executive dean of the KU School of Medicine until March 2014. Prior to that, he served as senior associate dean for clinical affairs and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
“Dr. Girod brings a wealth of experience to this role," said Chancellor Gray-Little. "He is a proven administrator and an excellent listener, and those on the KU Medical Center campus already are well familiar with his steady guidance and leadership abilities. I congratulate him, and KU is in good hands. I know he will continue our work to fulfill our mission and elevate the national stature of our university into the future.”
