The first time I ever heard BOY by Book of Love, was right after Thanksgiving - I was frying my ass off on Black Pyramid geltab LSD in a Mormon basement in Sandy Utah. Smoking cloves with my girlfriend fag hags whom had just gotten back from NYC making good money posing as clean responsible “LDS” nannies for yuppies. One of the girls spent a lot of time shopping at a record store called #RebelRebel in the West Village. She had brought home a record that was highly recommended from the owner of the record store right before her departure back to Salt Lake City and she hadn't had time to listen to it. She placed the vinyl on the turntable, put the needle on the record and forgot to change the speed of the 12” 45rpm single and accidentally left it at 33. Boy by Book of Love slowly, slowly came on and filled the room - I swear to christ it sounded exactly like this, we all heard it, we all loved it. We couldn’t believe a band on the Sire label could sound so gorgeous, weird and haunted.
