Dwayne Mosco celebrated the one-year anniversary of his treatments at Holy Cross' Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) by visiting his Holy Cross Rehab team and bringing them a celebration lunch. During a vacation in Bermuda in 2014, Dwayne unexpectedly developed a condition which paralyzed him. Guillain-Barré syndrome is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. As a result, one experiences weakness or tingling sensations in the legs, which eventually spread towards the arms and upper body until muscles are rendered immobile, almost totally paralyzing the body.
When Dwayne first arrived in our IRU, he could not stand and needed full assistance. By the time he was discharged two weeks later, he was able to walk 300 feet with no assistance. His therapists were thrilled to see Dwayne doing so well!
