We have no idea what life is going to bring us, but we can prepare for it. I never thought my partner would cheat on me so when you talk about perception of risk, what happens or what happened to me emotionally is that, first you go through the pain but at that point I felt that “Nikole, you better take an extra step to protect yourself.” PrEP is a pill that you take once a day that prevents you from getting HIV. You take birth control every day right, to prevent you from getting pregnant. Well this is the same thing. You take a pill every day to prevent you from getting HIV. PrEP allows me to be in control of my sexual health, none of my partners know that I take PrEP unless I disclose that to them. I will continue to strive to be HIV negative. I have control of that and I would never give that power now to a man. I always say PrEP may not be for you, but sister, everybody should know about it.
