Gotham Early Music Scene presents and supports groups offering some of the best historically informed performances in the New York City area. These excerpts comprise a sampling of some of their concerts.
Each Thursday from September to June, Gotham Early Music Scene presents a 45 minute, free early music concert starting at 1:15 in the Chapel of St Bartholomew's Church, 51st and Park Avenue in Manhattan. GEMS, in collaboration with the Mid-Manhattan Performing Arts Foundation, took over management of the series in the 2013-14 season from ARTEK's Gwendolyn Toth and has maintained the high quality of her curated concerts ever since. We are very lucky to have St Bart's as a partner in this endeavor; its Chapel is incomparably beautiful, with an intimate feel and superb acoustics.
Recently, radio station WWFM (wwfm.org) has been broadcasting the concerts on the first Tuesday of each month and then sharing those broadcasts with us. Some of the videos you'll see here are produced by GEMS; some are rebroadcasts of the radio station's Tuesday presentations. Whichever you sample, we hope they will entice you to come to the live performances when you are in Manhattan on a Thursday. You may learn more at www.gemsny.org.
