    →Author's note:

I had this idea for an animation where the entire setting evolves from practically nothing, for quite a while now. In the past few years I tried to make a cartoon like this numerous times, but I was never able to create something that would feel good enough. As it turned out, the secret to finally finishing an animation like this, was to not plan for it at all.

During Summer 2017 I started working on Vivus (back then called Island), and I genuinely had no clue what this cartoon will be about. I set out with a goal of improvising as I went along, and this commitment stayed with me till the very last frames. Except for very few broad ideas like: "Oh, I want there to be a tree!" or "I definitely need to add a cave somewhere in the future...", I had no idea how this animation will evolve, and how it will end. It kept the process of animating really fun and fulfilling, because as soon as I was done with one part of the cartoon, ideas for the next act were already pouring out of my head. Not soon after that, I realized that what I'm creating is exactly what I wanted to make years prior: An animated short about something from nothing.

Throughout the cartoon the viewers get to experience the journey of a being which is capable of creating matter around him. One of his first creations is a companion which will assist him in the development of this small, and a compact world. Their alien interactions help to understand their 'personalities', and the very simple concept of excitement over ones own creations. That feeling of excitement, is what I felt throughout the development of this cartoon, and now I am proud to share it with the world.

I hope that you enjoy this story, and I'm looking forward to creating more animations for all of you in the future. It is my passion, and Vivus is my largest project so far.

Genuine thanks to all my viewers and friends for the continued support. What you guys do means so much to me. I also wanted to thank my incredible friend James Ward, for help with the creation of Vivus, and for many great tips regarding art.
