This video celebrates the passing of the Disability Discrimination Act, its context and its achievements along the road to equality. In 2010, the Equality Act combined all equality enactments including the DDA. The Equality and Human Rights Commission, as the successor body to the Disability Rights Commission, continues the journey and makes significant contributions towards the advancement of equality for disabled people.
Our wide-ranging project seeks to develop alternative channels for reporting incidents of hate crime committed against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGB and T) people. It will also deliver training and advice for the police and criminal justice agencies help prevent hate crime and provide advice on report handling, as well as encouragement and support.
Our Inquiry looked at non-natural deaths of adults with mental health conditions in detention in England and Wales. We focused on prisons, police custody and psychiatric hospitals, as every year hundreds of deaths occur that are later deemed to have been preventable.
