Emerging Opportunities for Sustainability (EOS) International is a non-profit organization that was started by a group of engineers from Iowa State University in 2008 to promote appropriate technology in the developing world. We provide rural families with access to low-cost technologies that generate income and improve health. Our core technologies include: drip irrigation systems, fuel-efficient barrel ovens, biodigestors, water chlorination systems, and solar electric systems. Since 2008, we have been promoting and implementing these technologies in villages throughout Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. Aside from working directly with farmers and families, EOS is using our growing network to train and educate other development organizations and natives how to construct and maintain these technologies in order to reach more people in need. To date, we have installed over 750 technologies, and impacted the lives of over 80,000 Nicaraguans.
