Dr. Cunningham majored in chemistry and Spanish at Creighton U. before medical school at George Washington U. Following a research fellowship at the NIH, he completed residency in general surgery at the U. of Maryland, as well as fellowships in oncology research and in surgery of the liver and pancreas at Johns Hopkins U. He is currently Co-Director of Pancreatic and Hepatobiliary Surgery at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. He has produced a number of educational surgical videos, including videos on the St. Agnes channel regarding pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery in general, and specifically the Whipple operation, pancreatic cysts, and liver masses. An accomplished poet, he served as an editor of Maryland Poetry Review. His poems have appeared in several national publications. The award-wining "Dinosaur Name Poems" is his first full-length book of children's poetry. Dr. Cunningham lives in Baltimore with his wife and four children.
