Corboy & Demetrio proudly took part in the holiday party on Dec. 20, 2016, for the children who are tutored in the new CBA Lawyers Lend-A-Hand tutoring program. The firm donated coats, backpacks and school supplies to each of the 16 Englewood students taking part in the program.
Corboy & Demetrio’s Rita Planera, a Lawyers Lend-A-Hand Board Member, and Corboy & Demetrio Legal Assistant Wien DeStefano, handed out gifts to the group who are brought to Chicago Bar Association headquarters on Tuesdays for their tutoring sessions.
Corboy & Demetrio Co-founder Thomas Demetrio created the Lawyers Lend-A-Hand Award of Excellence in 1994 while he was President of the Chicago Bar Association. Each year, he funds the award, which recognizes outstanding youth mentoring programs.
The Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth Program, which administers Tom’s award, was created by The Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Foundation in 1995 in dedication to the lasting memory and generosity of the Honorable Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz.

According to Lawyers Lend-A-Hand’s website, the students currently taking part in the tutoring program are from Montessori School of Englewood and struggle academically, with only four percent meeting state educational standards. Englewood is also one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the city, with more than 40 percent of residents living below the poverty level. In recent years, Englewood has also developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous communities in the city, and currently has more homicides than any other neighborhood in Chicago.
Corboy & Demetrio is proud to have its employees involved with the tutoring program.
