At Chemonics, development is more than a passion. It’s a profession. We are an international development company whose global network of specialists shares an unwavering resolve to work better, driven by a conviction that the world must be better. With approximately 4,000 people working in 70 countries, we combine our experience across different technical sectors to design comprehensive solutions and deliver lasting results.
Using a demand-driven development approach, our programs in Africa build the capacity of local institutions and create lasting impact, whether it is helping protect local biodiversity, facilitating international trade, or helping world leaders recognize famine conditions and plan accordingly. The common thread is our commitment to serving the needs of beneficiaries and local partners to promote true and lasting change. Our Africa portfolio is managed through three regional business units: East Africa, Southern Africa, and West and Central Africa.
Beginning with a fertilizer marketing project in Afghanistan in 1977, our work in Asia now includes a wide variety of countries and sectors—from health services in Bangladesh to mobile banking in the Philippines to improving enterprise competitiveness in Pakistan to mitigating the effects of climate change in the Maldives. Our Asia portfolio is managed through three regional business units: East Asia, South Asia, and Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Beginning in 1993 after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Chemonics began work in Europe and Eurasia, partnering with local governments and institutions to promote strong business environments, good governance practices, and sustainable education programs for adults and children. The bedrock of our work in the region is lasting local partnerships that will continue to serve the needs of local citizens long after projects close. Our Europe and Eurasia portfolio is managed by two regional business units—Central and Eastern Europe and Caucasus and Central Asia.
Beginning with a focus on agricultural development, Chemonics now has a wide array of projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. We are working with local partners to protect forests and biodiversity, promote fair and equitable economic growth, alleviate poverty and food insecurity, and encourage financial sector reform. In Haiti, for instance, we continue to support rebuilding from the 2010 earthquake and investing in agriculture and other key sectors to improve livelihoods. Our project portfolio in Latin America and the Caribbean is managed by three regional business units—Haiti, South America, and Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Beginning in 1981 with a program to supply Egyptian villages with basic services, our Middle East programs have grown to support community outreach and civic engagement, good governance, legislation protecting women and children, tourism development, health services, and enhanced trade and competitiveness. Our Middle East portfolio is managed through two regional business units—Middle East and Egypt, North Africa, and Yemen.
