CareFlight was established in 1986 by a group of rescue volunteers and health professionals who sought to create a better retrieval service for medical emergencies for people in remote areas. Our beginnings were humble, with just one helicopter based at Westmead Hospital in NSW, and one doctor on duty on each day. Back then, CareFlight transported an average of four patients a month. Today CareFlight has 12 doctors rostered every day of the year and we fly over 400 missions each month. We care for patients throughout Australia and also provide a retrieval service to nearby countries.
