The CDSC was formed in 1986 by parents and professionals who wanted to create greater opportunity in Connecticut for people who live with Down syndrome. With a membership of more than 350 today, it provides emotional support to expectant parents and new families through its First Call Program. Fellowship and mutual support throughout the lifespan are created through social and educational events, including the Annual Summer Picnic and the Annual Buddy Walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park. In November of each year, the CDSC holds a statewide convention showcasing best practices in educational, medical and therapeutic interventions. The CDSC also advocates for public policy initiatives that benefit the well-being, inclusion and independence of people in Connecticut who live with Down syndrome.
