We live in challenging times. Watch the news on repeat, you’d think it was an irreversible decline.
So the question we must all ask ourselves is this: Why are we here? And how do we help customers in these uphill climbs?
A couple of years ago we realised we needed to change our approach, to a business more focused to learn, grow and coach. No longer letting issues escalate behind a front-door, we’re people who listen, delve deeper, take time to explore.
So the Deal evolved and things became clear, aiming for that same target – and truly being One Bromford – became our next frontier.
We continue building homes – an increasing supply. But now with more focus on where customers want to rent, part-own or buy. Having a programme less reliant on section 106, means we can develop our homes as part of a better mix.
Providing homes the right size, meeting customer needs. Means a stepping stone towards achieving their dreams. We’ll give people a home that is safe and one that is warm – matching the right home to the right customer will soon be the norm.
Our relationship is changing, the localities approach. We now empower customers to get what they want out of life, no longer sirens blaring whenever there’s strife. But there’s no silver bullet to gaining their trust, so persistence and resilience is an absolute must.
And from our findings the benefits are clear: vibrant communities, less welfare dependency, reduced stress on public services, more people in – a – career.
To achieve all this we need money – a sustainable core. Which allows us to invest, in the things we want more. Our operating margin means we’re better placed than most, to ride out these unknowns and help customers find the winning post. And watching every pound we spend, generating enough cash, lets us invest in people – and occasionally have a Bash.
Nothing in life worth achieving, is done without believing. So in this world of unpredictability, of change, and of doing less with more… we need you. Every single one of you sitting here today. It’s black and white, there’s no shades of grey. To step up to the plate and truly innovate – be good, be brave, be different, and be commercial but like never before. Remember: there’s a different human being behind every front-door.
And is it ambitious? Will there be bad days? Setbacks? Times you lack clout? We’re only human so for this there’s no doubt.
