My mother Dorothy DeMarco, Dotty, lived with Alzheimer's but refused to let it define her --
At the age of 95, and less two months before she went to Heaven, Dotty did something remarkable. Already in a late stage of Alzheimer's disease, she picked up a colored pencil and started coloring in a coloring pad. She did this on her own without any assistance.
My mother proved that Alzheimer's patients are capable of more than we can imagine. She proved there is "more there" than is commonly assumed by family and friends.
My mother was deeply forgetful, but this did not mean she could not function. She brought happiness and joy to those than knew her.
