In 1997, artists Victoria Lyons and Michael Moonbird founded Bad Dog Arts to fill a community need for after-school arts enrichment. They named the organization after one of Michael's print series based on a curious dog that goes on great adventures from the inner magma chambers to the farthest reaches of the universe. Our mission is to inspire at-risk and underserved youth to experience the power and freedom to imagine, dare and create, both individually and collaboratively, through the creative arts. Bad Dog teaches much more than art! We mentor youth through a process of personal development that strengthens confidence, core values and critical life skills. Bad Dog programs unleash creativity, enhance social skills and develop artistic ability, while introducing kids to a variety of educational and career possibilities. Bad Dog Kids learn teamwork, critical thinking, creative problem solving, planning and responsibility - crucial elements for success in school and any career.
