In 2014, Austin Film Society Artistic Director Richard Linklater programmed and hosted 35mm screenings of some of the most important films of the 80s. Linklater introduced each film and stuck around afterwards to host an audience discussion. This first installment of the series focused on the years 1980 through 1983.
The full series included: THE KING OF COMEDY, VERONIKA VOSS, VALLEY GIRL, WHITE DOG, REDS, MELVIN AND HOWARD, EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF, STAR 80, DAS BOOT, CUTTER'S WAY, FANNY AND ALEXANDER, RUMBLE FISH, OUT OF THE BLUE and ATLANTIC CITY.
