In the spirit of the Freedom Movements of 1963, we will honor the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington with a Day of Dignity at your Southern State Capitols on August 28, 2013.

We invite you and your communities to come out with us to the Southern State Capitols on August 28, 2013, the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. On this day, we will DEFINE what is happening in our communities, DEMAND our dignities, and DETERMINE the future of the Southern Freedom Movement in the 21st Century.

We are connecting local histories to current realities. We recognize that our strength is in the power of the people. We have agency to come together across the South and demand the dignity we need to live our lives, raise our families, and create our communities free of racism, violence, and poverty.

50 years ago, the South organized themselves, identified their demands, and vision for their dignity. The realities of the South became visible to the nation with the March on Washington.

50 years since, the South has experienced different trials and triumphs. Social Movements have continued in the legacy to organize for the self-determination of the people. As we continue to feel the attacks on our advancements, we continue to create spaces for movement building.

Looking 50 years forward, on the steps of the Southern Capitols, we will present and discuss Southern Freedom demands for the next five to fifty years. On August 28, 2013, across the South we will celebrate our collective power with in culture, food, music; facilitate children assemblies and youth education assemblies; provide haircuts and clothes distribution and other activities that reclaim our dignity. The Day of Dignity is an invitation to join and build our movement for people's freedom in the 21st Century.
