With the release of 2016's album "Room for Roots," Andy May celebrates 50 years as an Americana Music artist... and makes a statement as he dives into his second half-century of writing and performing music. Andy started performing seriously in his teens as part of the tail-end of the 60’s Folk Revival in New York’s Greenwich Village and has continued ever since. He’s pretty much played them all…the concert stages, the coffee houses and honky-tonks, internationally known festivals, schools, colleges – and even Carnegie Hall.
We dug through the archives for video, photos, music and interviews from throughout his career and put them together for you here in this retrospective/introduction. Come to think of it, there's *always* been room for roots in Andy May's music!
From 1980 to 1987, Atlantic Express was Andy May's band. They toured extensively throughout the Northeast until Andy moved to Colorado in the late 1980's. For years afterwards, Andy would do a Northeastern tour with them each year.
Andy has played MerleFest every year since 2000. In addition to his sets, he leads the ever-popular MerleFest Youth Showcase. (Performances from the Youth Showcase are in the AcoustiKi♪s playlist on Andy's channel.) We do have more video of Andy's work at Merlefest and will be posting more songs as we get them edited for YouTube.
