Adnan Baraky

Syrian composer and oud player Adnan Barakè draws on both Middle Eastern and Western influences in search of a unique musical voice.
Adnan's natural talent was obvious from an early age, and in 2002 he was accepted into the Higher Conservatorium of Music in Damascus. His unique musical voice was becoming clear, and while still a student his playing was described as 'original and innovative; producing new sounds from the oud'.
Adnan was a regular soloist with the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, performing at the orchestra's tenth anniversary concert and the opening of the Syrian Opera House in 2004. During this time, he also worked to re-design the internal structure of the oud - bringing to the instrument a new brightness and depth of sound.
Adnan relocated to Australia in 2008 and was invited to play at Australia’s largest festivals including the National Folk Festival and WOMADelaide.
He released two albums, Dinaan and Syrian Orpheus. The latter was supported by City of Melbourne
