Unlike traditional electron beam irradiation techniques, AccuBoost offers a real-time, mammography based targeting approach to localize the precise tissue requiring radiation. This accurate targeting procedure when paired with the AccuBoost Shielded Applicators, deliver the targeted dose parallel to the chest wall, sparing the internal organs and skin from unwanted stray dose radiation that is common with electron beam based treatment options.
As you will see in the video, the procedure is much like undergoing a mammogram, where the breast is compressed to the point of immobilization (approximately 1/3rd the compression of a standard mammogram,) imaged and treated. After the delivery of the first dose, the process is repeated on a different axis.
