The men in our lives… may need a little help seeing things. Research has shown that women are NINE times more likely than men to notice melanoma on others. In addition, men assisted by women during skin exams are less likely to miss skin lesions than women assisted by men.
Since men over 50 have a higher risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, the AAD’s new SPOTme® video uses humor to show how men and women sometimes see things a little differently before encouraging women to regularly check their partner’s skin for the signs of skin cancer.
In conjunction with Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month® in May and Melanoma Monday®, observed on May 1 this year, the American Academy of Dermatology is encouraging women to check both their partners and themselves for the signs of skin cancer.
